2013 Art Competition has closed.

Artist's were asked to respond to the following: "Some days in the Northern Rivers you just...."


Gypsie-Rover-and-the-Table-of-Knowledge Clare-UrquhartFIRST PRIZE: Artist Clare Urquhart of Tabulam has won first prize in the Regional Social Plan Online Art Competition with her ceramic work ‘Gypsie Rover and the Table of Knowledge’. The sculpture was described by one of the judges as ‘a wonderful interpretation of what this region has to offer- a scene that everyone can relate to and has experienced in the Northern Rivers’ <<link to this artwork – the caravan>>. The overwhelming message from all the works submitted was the importance of people’s connection with nature for their health and wellbeing and the fragile and preciousness of the Northern Rivers natural environment.



Summer-Daze Kim-TidymanSECOND PRIZE:Second prize in the arts competition was taken out Kim Tidyman from Murwillumbah with her colourful painting ‘Summer Daze’. The work was praised for its ability to express the warmth and hopefulness of the region while raising issues around the feelings of isolation and invisibility that the artist experiences. Some-Days-in-the-Northern-Rivers-You-Admire-a-Fig-Tree Bruce-Fleming

THIRD PRIZE: Bruce Fleming from Alstonville has won third prize with his charcoal drawing  of a well-known fig tree titled ‘Some Days in the Northern Rivers you Admire a Fig Tree’.  Judges commented on the skill and artistic merit of Bruce’s piece with one of the judges noting that ‘this beautifully executed piece has interpreted the theme well- the many pieces making up the whole’.
